Synthesizing Sounds Or Playing Music

A morning of bare-footed bohemie trying to get the gremlins out of the modular synthesizer.

A few more thoughts about synthesizers. I’m experiencing two ways to handle them.

On the one hand, there’s their attraction as a sound-producing object. I spent this morning in pajamas trying to get to grips with the pecularities of a few new modules. Pittsburgh Modular’s KB-1 touch-sensitive keyboard / arpeggiator / sequencer is neat and Buchla-esque, but it takes the whole system with it into chaotic oscillations after running a few minutes. Or is it when even a cable touches the encoder surfaces, I don’t know. It’s maddening.

On the other hand, the Moog Sub 37 continues to please in musical ways.

I even got it to work with my Linux laptop.

It was quite easy to play a midi file to the Moog Sub 37 with LMMS.

So, here’s me not yet playing music myself, It’s the Poor Keith again, piped to yet another synthesizer.
